A robbery attempt at my own house

How many of you ever came across somebody who claim themselves as government officer knocking on your door, asking questions and... asking you to open the door!

This happen quite some time back. I was alone at home right after having lunch at a nearby coffee shop. As I about to do some home clean up, this indian chap stand right in front of my door step calling me!WTF

I live in a terrace house, as you may know, there is another door outside before the porch and this guy just open it and walked into my porch without any greetings. I wish I have a big hungry dog in my porch then and bite his KKC into pieces!

So, back to the conversation, he claim he was from the JPN (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara) and he would like to conduct a survey on household income sort of thing. He wear a pretty smart uniform and he even have a tiger head logo on his belt, kind of like the one use by the police! Though I didn't really how exactly JPN uniform looks like but he was pretty convincing.

Just before he start with his survey questionaire, he ask me to open the door and give him a chair so that he could have a seat! I don't know, but why he need me to 'open the door' and give him a chair??? It was kinda sudden that I felt something is not right here. The word 'open the door' just raise my alert about this guy.

So, I politely rejected his request and ask him to start with his survey and get on with it. Though he may have to stand there for duno how long but its not my problem right, I was also standing there like him too.

But the this Indian chap seems unhappy about it and start raising up his tone.

Indian Chap : The survey is going to be quite long time and you want me to just stand here! Come on, open the door and give me a chair so that I could seat!

I started to feel pissed off on him already by then and he definitely not going to get a piece of shit off me. I repeat the sentence again in case he could not get it. I tell him just start the survey and I ain't giving him no chair or whatsoever. Alternatively I tell him I willing to go to the JPN office if it is needed.

He seems so angry already and start talking craps to me, saying that I'm wasting his time and it would be troublesome for me to goto the JPN office. And yeah, he even gave me a piece of the survey form but then I saw the office address was in the old JPN building one. It has been several months that the JPN office has moved to Jelapang but this chap gave me this old address form, woah! who's wasting who's time here.

His face turn even darker that I could no longer differentiate his face color and his moustache anymore. I insist that I'm not going to open no door and giving no chair to him.

Knowing that he ain't getting anything from me, he just start to ask some question with a bladdy black face. And it don't even takes 5 minutes before he call it off.

I don't know what is going to happen if open the door that day. It is obvious that the guy isn't really an officer. Better be safe than be sorry and if you came across this similar incident in the future, just remember. Never open the door to stranger, even a uniform officer could be fake. You could report to the police if you are in doubt of their identity.

i think they need some government issue letter to do inspection on people house right?

It is norm not to allow strangers into one flat/house. Unless, the so call visitor can produce a document that he has legal RIGHTS to enter your premises, all such visitors should be left to continue talking (outside your gate) EVEN if you have others at home with you.

I stay in Hong Kong and will not hesitate to shut my door on such "uninvited visitor" within 3 seconds. You do not even have to waste your time if he can't proof that there is such survey commissioned.

Hey, I hear a variation of these recently around Ipoh, surveys, donations, police officials looking for missing child etc. Common theme is Indian guys.. So if anything, bring your handphone with you, show it to them, and say you are dialing the police right now because you want to verify their identities. It works for me, they all cabut within 2 seconds when they saw me not bluffing. Also this action will help your neighbours too.

The lastest news I heard about pengkalan was this ppls stole petrol from the cars and vans parking outside their house. I dun really understand what's the explaination was.....they digged holes at below the vehicles and once this owner drive their cars, they only realise that they cars are running out of petrol.

I heard ppl are stealing petrol during the fuel crisis where petrol price shoot up to RM2.70 that time.
Now that its only RM1.80, I think nobody wants to steal petrol anymore
