Kampong Bagan Pasir is located near Bagan Datoh at Teluk Intan, Perak. It is the place where my mother was born and grew up. Bagan Pasir is one of the many small fishing village along the Perak River delta towards the Straights of Malacca. For my mum, this place is already been part of her heart while for me, this place left me with a lot of great memories. I used to follow my mum back here whenever I got the chance and stay for a few days with the relatives here.
But time has past so fast. Most of our relatives here had already moved towards the city and metropolitan leaving only a few behind. I have not been here for years and things had changed so much.
Unlike those time where coming back here was an anticipation of joy and hapiness, I was back here full of sorrow this time. My aunt had passed away. It was a sad day especially to my mother who lost a beloved sister.

One of the main street along the village. This road used to be very busy with pedestrian and motorcycle moving along all the time. Kids would be playing at the five foot steps and also those fish monger pushing their trolleys with ice cube or fresh fishes.
But today, the street were empty. Younger generations were mostly moved out to the city for greater education or career. The future doesn't seems to be bright in a place like this nowdays.

An abandoned fishing boat. With the rise of operational cost, safety and also the decrease in catch volume, many has stop going out to the sea.

The back yard of our house here is a small river which directly connects to the Straights of Malacca sea. When the tide rises up in the evening, fishing boats would be heading into the river where the jetty is located. Fish monger and workers will be busy separating the fishes and other sea creatures which I could not recognize back then. It is a very fascinating activities and I would always stand on the bridge looking at those boats coming back and busy peoples working.

I remember when the tide rises in the evening, kids would be jumping from the bridge and swimming around. I only get to watch them enjoying and my eldest brother would be swimming towards the open sea. Today, I only see dogs playing on the water. I guess no ordinary human would be swimming on a muddy water like this isn't.

I don't know how to swim back then so I will enjoy my time collecting some sea shells and hermit crabs which are plentiful here. I was very fascinated with sea shells. It came in all sort of shapes and sizes. I used to have a whole lots of sea shell on my collection. It was my own bad that I always play with those shells on the floor and left a few of them behind. You won't know how much it hurts when someone's step their foot onto those freaking shells... especially the shell with some nasty spike on it... hehehe
I got screwed several times for those and eventually I threw everything away!

A rather abandoned-like community hall. Those days, womens would be sitting over here fixing up fishing net. My mum taught me how to fix and make fishing net before but I totally have no idea how to do it now. These inheritance would eventually become extinc and left in the history books.

In front of the community hall is this small temple which face towards the open sea. I like to come over here looking to the open sea. This place was very windy in the evening. People would be praying at this little temple for the safety of fishermen and during the festive season, there will be Chinese Opera held at the community hall. But looking at the condition of the hall, I guess there have never been any events over the past decades or so.

The temple I constructed on wood pillings about 20 feet above. Under the temple was nothing else than mud. There are crabs and mudskipper all over the place here.

The vast sea of the Straights of Malacca.

Drying up fish and chips. The volume seems to be for their own consumption rather than for commercial.
