For a moment, I din't really realize that there is a bird sanctuary located in Batu Gajah. It has been there since several years ago and today, it was kind of becoming the next Lost World already. The Kinta Bird Sanctuary or Taman Alam Kinta is located at Kampung Pisang, Batu Gajah.
The name Kampung Pisang is familiar to me because it used to be a haven for angler in the 90's. Back then I often visit this place to hunt the Giant Snakehead or Toman fish. But now, it seems that not many angler visiting this place anymore. I guess the fish stock here is kind of depleted. Although Kampung Pisang is no longer the haven for angler but now it turns up to become the haven for birdwatcher instead.
Driving my car next alongside the Kinta River, I recalled back the time I visit this place more than a decade ago. The entire valley along the river is scattered with old mining pool and there are hundreds of used mining pool along the riverside. Many of the mining pool are now being taken to breed duck.
After about 10 minutes drive through the muddy road I've reached the so called Bird Sanctuary. Most of the sign board which indicates the Taman Alam Kinta is no longer visible so it is a lost world after all.
The day has just begun and I get to witness the sun rising from a beautiful lake side surrounded by Mother Nature. I'm speechless.
There is a small island in the lake that sheltered hundreds of birds in the sanctuary. This could consider the headquarters of the bird here.
I was driving around the lake to take a look at the surroundings and I was astonished with its beauty.
Birds are everywhere in this sanctuary area. You can see bird on the tree, in the lake, by the river and flying here and there non stop. I never run out of bird to shoot my photo.
Apart of birds, there is also other wild animal here such as these otter. There are at least seven of them in a group swimming around the lake. The size was about the same with a regular dog in the streets.
There is a three storey high observation tower in the sanctuary to allow birdwatcher a bird eye view at the bird island. However, it was quite far away for photography. There is also several resting hut around the lake.
A beautiful Purple Heron posing for me. It is the largest bird found in the sanctuary. Heron is a kind of migratory bird traveling from the northern hemisphere during the cold season.
A group of Heron at the lake side of the bird island.
You could see birds flying in the sky all the time. The air traffic is very busy. Sometimes you could see birds carrying twigs to build their nest. It is somewhat difficult to shoot photo on a flying bird. It is hard to keep the object in view when you got to zoom almost to the max and then got to allow some time for the camera to focus before pressing the trigger. Most of the pictures were either out of view or out of focus while some have the object too small. Well, there are plenty of birds here for practice though.
A Black-Naped Oriole singing at the tree top. This is a common bird which could be found almost everywhere in the country.
A pair of Swiftlet resting on a dead tree trunk.
A pair of Heron hanging on the tree top observing the surrounding.
An Oriental Robin singing on the tree.
A sharp colored White Throated Kingfisher. I just love the blue color on its body.
I just call it a day as the sun reaches the top of my head. The first hand experience at the Bird Sanctuary was just great and I'm sure I will be back for more. It just makes me love more deeply into Bird Photography and I am looking forward to create a collection of bird photo.
I recalled back that there is a secret path from this sanctuary area which connected to a place called Kota Bharu. Well, not the capital city of Kelantan but it is a small village near Gopeng. I just drove around the lake trying to find the passage and somehow I just got myself to the Kota Bharu KTM station. I am finally got myself out of the Lost World and I'm heading straight to Gopeng and then back to Ipoh.
