Bukit Tambun Seafood @ HoHo Food World

Bukit Tambun is synonym with its famous seafood and patrons who came here craving for the delicacies may find it hard to decide which restaurant serve the best seafood. There are dozens of seafood restaurant in the area and to which one serve the best seafood has been a myth.

I paid a visit to one of the restaurant located in the most isolated route in Bukit Tambun. HoHo Food World is located at the very end of the road to Bukit Tambun. After exiting the North South highway and drive towards Bukit Tambun, there are many seafood restaurant along the way. Upon reaching nearly the end of the route, we enter a rather bumpy small lane to reach the restaurant.

Stepping into the restaurant seemed a typical seafood restaurant like most others. This restaurant has just been taken over few months ago and the new owner, Mr. Henry Ng is gradually improving the restaurant interior.

This restaurant resided at the riverside of Sungai Jawi. You may find busy fishermen boat going in and out of the river. The restaurant itself also do their own catch of fish, crabs, prawn and so on for their own stock apart of getting it from suppliers.

They have abundance of live stock in their inventory among others, crabs, prawns and also lobster.

Mud crab is a famous delicacies among seafood. They have plenty here in all shape and size.

Spotted Angel Fish. This is a rare kind of fish found in seafood restaurant. This unique fish gives a distinct texture and taste compared to other species.

This is a prehistoric animal dated back to hundred of millions of years back and still live in this planet. Horse Shoe Crab or locally known as Belangkas is also available here.

While awaiting for the food to arrive, I always like to walk around and watch all those live seafood they keep in the restaurant. I ate many kind of seafood but somehow I wonder what does some of the food I ate looks like when it is alive. I mean, not all seafood restaurant keep live stock for you to see what is the real thing is.

Now, having spending some time in the restaurant walking around seeing and discovering, the food is arriving to our table. Yes, food is coming!

The first platter is the boiled octopus tentacles and also spiked sea shell. Arranged in a Yin Yang style, this appetizing snack deemed simple but the experience was significant. Both the octopus and shell meat was so sweet and bouncy I could feel it resisting every bite I made on it. Serve with a couple of different sauce, it is simply great.

Then comes a little small pot with some mystical treasure hidden beneath its cover. This is one of their signature dish, the fish head and yam. Unlike others which cooks as a soup, at HoHo Food World, this one is cooked and double boiled until the yam completely softened and penetrated into the fish head making the texture very smooth and tantalizing. This is a very unique dishes and you got to try this for once to get the feel out of it.

Next comes another pot onto our table. As we reveal the treasure beneath, several large prawn appear on the top and under it lies a bowl of rice cooked in a specially prepared sauce. It's another signature dish of the restaurant. Unlike the normal clay pot rice we had, the master chef here made some adjustment on the sauce to make the rice more fragrant and taste stronger.

Steamed Mantis Prawn in soy sauce. The mantis prawn is cooked just nice preserving it's meat juiciness and the natural sweetness. This is really delicious.

Steamed Spotted Angel Fish topped with special sauce consisting of fermented bean and chili. The fish meat is smooth paired with the tasteful sauce, its really yummy.

My all time favorite seafood, crab. This is another special dishes served at HoHo Food World. Flower crab cooked with curry gravy Indonesia style. The curry gravy were strong in taste yet not so spicy and the crab meat were so juicy and sweet indicating the crab is really fresh.

Another unique dishes found here is this Oyster served with specially braised gravy. The oyster was sweet covered with the delicious gravy resulting a mouth blowing experience.

Finally comes this Fried Signature Tofu. The tofu were crisp in the outer layer and smooth in the inner side. Simply delicious.

Overall the food at HoHo Food World is great. For those who are looking for new experience in seafood should pay a visit to this restaurant to try out their new taste of dishes.
