Going Korea Dongdaemun Market

Now here we are at the Dongdaemun market in Seoul looking at the busy street with vehicle flowing the road non stop. This massive city never sleeps from its traffic congestion. Dongdaemun market is a huge place covering 26 shopping malls, ten of thousands of specialty shops and ten of thousands of manufacturer. Whatever you could think of, you could find it here.

Pedestrian walking along the walkway next to a river in the middle of the city. Korea is a very clean place and the city is very well maintained. It could put any of our rivers in the city to shame.

A road side stalls selling Korea’s famous local cuisine, ddeokbokki. It consists of pieces of rice cake cooked in some sweet and spicy sauce. It does taste good though. You could find stalls selling these delicacies almost everywhere in the market.

Yumm.. some irresistible fried sticks. Got to try it out.

Yummy, I bought a stick of this… well, it has sausage at the middle covered with some flour and then some potatoes fries covering the outer layer. Very unique and delicious too.

Outside Doota Shopping mall. This shopping mall allow foreign customer to get tax rebate for their purchase over a minimum amount.

We do some shopping at the Doota shopping mall and bought some souvenirs to bring back for friends and family. Things here certainly a lil bit expensive compared to what we have back home but well, just some souvenirs.

After the shopping at Dongdaemun, it is dinner time. That evening we will be having one of the famous delicacies in Korea. It has the very much sought after herbs found in Korea and guess what is it? Well, its Korean Ginseng of course.

Each person gets a pot of the ginseng chicken soup, a small bowl of noodle and a small glass of ginseng liquor. It is ample enough that most of us unable to finish up the pot of ginseng soup.

The pot of ginseng soup comprised of a whole chicken. The chicken is stuffed with glutinous rice and a piece of precious Korean Ginseng. No kidding, everyone get a piece of it. Talk about Korean Ginseng, this precious herb is globally well known. In Korea, it is common to see farmers grow ginseng in their farm. Ginseng plant should not be exposed too much to sun light so ginseng farms will have rows of black colored sheets to protect the ginseng plants. Farms producing high quality ginseng is usually controlled by government. A ginseng will reach its most nutritious form at the age of 6 years. So, if you want to buy some good Korean Ginseng, make sure it is a ‘six year root’ which usually will be printed on its package.

As we done with the ginseng soup dinner, we check in to the hotel. We were staying at the Co Op Residence. Ya know, after the skiing session on the previous evening, the pain started to develop on most part of my body. Must take some good rest tonight.

I’m staying at the 11th floor of the hotel and I could enjoy a good night scenic at part of Seoul city. Its beautiful.

The itinerary for the next day mostly consists of shopping and then a musical show at the evening. It’s a very pack schedule.
