Going Korea Seoraksan National Park

Seoraksan National Park has many magnificent scenery spot including the Sorak mountain, Sinheungsa Buddhist Temple, Ulsanbawi rock formation and so on.

Its 6 o’clock in the morning and the wake up call rang up as planned. Took a shower in the morning and the moment I step out from the bathroom, its freezing cold. Got to chase the time packing up everything and move on to the next spot. That will be the daily routine over the next few days.

breakfast at hotel

Breakfast of the day. They don’t have a whole lot of varieties here compared to the hotel back home. Just a simple meal with a few simple dishes. One should not be so picky on food when traveling abroad, for those who are, better bring along some food along like instant coffee, instant noodle, biscuits and so on.

seoraksan national park entrance

The first tourism spot we visited is the Mount Sorak or Seoraksan National Park near the city of Sokcho. It’s a beautiful scenic spot with mountains, valleys and alpine forest. The temperature there was about 0 to 5 degrees centigrade.

bronze buddha statue

A gigantic Buddha statue made of bronze greets us in the middle of the path. Majority of the population in Korea is Buddhist.

berry juice stall

A roadside stall selling some berry and cider. Looks tempting.

seoraksan bear statue

Korean national mascot, a grizzly bear. Bear represent courage and strength.

Ulsanbawi rock formation

A high rising rock formation stood out in the middle of the forest known as the Ulsanbawi. You can reach the unique rock formation by taking a hiking path and you got to climb 888 steps to get to the rock.

seoraksan mountains

My camera experience some hang up a few times. It might be due to the cold weather here or is it my S3IS have some problem itself? I always make sure the camera is placed under my jacket to keep it warm. Cold weather will drain the battery much faster than normal condition. You might only get 50% of your normal battery life if the camera is left in cold condition too long. My fully charged spare batteries drain up itself as I left it in my backpack just within a day time. Lesson learned, the next day, I keep the spare battery in my pocket to keep it warm. By then, it doesn’t drain up itself too fast.

Sinheungsa Buddhist temple

The Sinheungsa Buddhist temple in the Seoraksan National park.

tortoise fountain

Inside the temple lies a tortoise fountain with water flowing out from its mouth. Tortoise symbolize longevity and if you drink water flowing from the tortoise, hopefully you will live longer and healthier. But today, it see it producing 100 Plus isotonic drink instead, so much of modernization lol.

beautiful lavatory

A masterpiece of ancient construction. But over some modernization, this masterpiece has turn into a lavatory instead. Hmm.. a five star class lavatory, and no entry charge sumore, great huh!

snow mountain

A snowy mountain peak. It’s only the beginning of winter now and we didn’t get to see much snow for the time being. Perhaps after another month or so, snow will start to cover most of the terrain in the national park.
Seoraksan is the third highest mountain in South Korea standing at 1708 meters or 5603 feet high.

sweeper service

An odd looking event, not sure if they’re trying to sell floor cleaning gear or service. But well, hope their business go well though.

Our visit at the Seoraksan national park end at 10:30am and we continue our journey on the second day trip to the Taepo Fish Market.
