How do you learn swimming

Swimming is not only a very healthy activity but it could also save life in case you fall into a river or you might even be able to save somone else's life.

Do you ever bother to learn how to swim? Swimming is not only a very healthy activity but it could also save life in case you fall into a river or you might even be able to save somone else's life.

I started to swim when I was on my early years in secondary school, you know, our most active time doing these challenging activities. While most people nowday could just get into a swimming class at the public swimming pool, I never get those chance though.

Living in the well known Kinta Valley for its mining activities in the past, used old mines are everywhere here and you don't have to go far to find one. Yeah, I'm an adventurous fella like many other teenagers does ut parents would say we're terribly naughty that we goes swimming in those old mines. My parents will certainly chop me into pieces if they found out I goes swimming in those place.
But well, teenagers are all hot blooded and adventurous, can't help it though.

It all started when I join my friends to catch fish in a small pond. It was fun catching those little colorful fishes and put it into aquarium. It was like every weekend, we will get on our bike (bicycle) and head towards the pond which is about 40 minutes away. That place happens to be the current Taman Pakatan at Pengkalan. Before any houses was built, it used to be a barren land and bushes. There is a few little pond there which still exist until now but they're fully covered by bushes already. It used to be our heaven back then.

Not far from the little pond where we catch fish, lies a larger pool which is hidden behind some bushes. It so was quiet there and the water was so calm. You know, the word 'Danger' never seems to exist in our mind back then, duno why but I never thought of that at least.

"One, Two and Three!," one of my friend suddenly yelled.
Everyone start taking off their clothes and start running towards the pool and jump.
Everybody was in the pool only with their undies. The water was about 2 to 3 feet depth at the side and it goes deeper as you go further. I still doesn't know how to swim back then and I spend all the time at the shallow water playing with others. As the time goes by, I learned to stay afloat and eventually start to know how to swim.

Behind all those hapiness and fun times playing in the pool, lies some sad and bad stories too. Swimming in these old mining pool is very dangerous as we all may know. You never know what lies under the water and what you may encounter.

Although I never witness any death of people in those places but there is several times that some of my friends almost drowned in the water.
Water at the side of the pond is usually shallow and you may even see through the sand underneath. As you walked further to the water, it is dark and you wont see anything. Most people who caught into trouble is that they think that the water is gradually become deeper and deeper but they're totally wrong.

Mining pool is not like swimming pool or sea side where the water is gradually become deeper and deeper as you goes. The depth could at anytime suddenly drop beyond the height of your body and that is what always trap those kids who play in the pond.
