Industrial Accident

Having been working in factory for more than a decade, I witnessed several Industrial Accident and have escaped unhurt on several occasion too. Accident doesn't choose victim, regardless of how experience or how many years one has been in the industries, accident could happen to anyone. I remember when I started my career as a technician, I almost got my finger crushed by a water pump. I was trying to fix a water pump of a huge lapping machine when one of my colleague walked in and tried to turn on the pump. He did not notice I was working at the pump because it was located at the other side of the machine control panel. I was so lucky that I just remove my hand from the pump's rotor blades which is only less than one second away. It was awful but I was relief that I was unhurt.

You know, working along the night post greater risk of accident. Many multinational company is operating 24 hours non stop along the year with hardly any shut down. So, those workers who are working at night shift usually would get really tired and sleepy after midnight. I've seen several accident at my work place during night shift time. Couple of year ago, one of my colleague got her finger stuck in a pressing machine. Well, it isn't a big machine which going to cause severe injury but then it is enough to make her finger feel pain along the night. She was so sleepy during the accident that she put her finger on the wrong place when the machine operate.

Another incident happen last year on an operator who is working in the assembly line. Her job is to put in a screw to secure the circuit board onto a container. Well, I never thought 'screwing work' like this could ever post any injuries to anybody. But that night, instead of putting a screw onto the circuit board, she screw it onto her finger instead! She must have place the spinning screw too long on her finger while she was 'asleep' until it penetrates into her flesh. And she screwed her finger that night.

Just a few days ago, a very serious accident happen at my workplace involving a chargeman who are working at a main electrical switch. He was trying to measure the main power line current with a probe meter. You know, the main power line to that switch has a current of 800 Ampere flowing into the factory!
I'm not sure if he has place the probe at the wrong line or the meter was not set correctly but within split seconds, the chargeman was toasted.
He got jolted by the main power line current. Most part of his body was burned severely and his hair too was mostly burned off! It was only less than one second that he transform from a white into a black person!
He didn't passed out but was stunned seriously and his colleagues who are working nearby helped him to get to the guard house for ambulance. And that fellow could still asking for a stick of cigarettes from the guard, haven't got enough smoke perhaps.
He was warded into the hospital immediately.
