
Ipoh's famous beansprout chicken or Nga Choi Kai in cantonese. It is a must try food if you happen to be in Ipoh. The beansprout chicken consist of steamed chicken meat served with soya sauce and sesame oil, also not to forget the short and fat beansprout which is different from any other beansprout from other place. This yummy dish is served with a bowl of Sar Hor Fun a.k.a Kuey Teow (another Ipoh signature food).
There are several restaurant in Ipoh where you could find beansprout chicken but the most famous restaurant was Low Wong located at the junction of Yau Tet Shin Street and Osbourne Street. It is usually crowded there packed with tourist.

Well, great food are quite subjectives towards individual preference and taste.
One of my relative at KL likes Lou Wong and say it was the best!
For me, I don't like Lou Wong. I would go any other nga choi kai rather than Lou Wong.
Yeah....Restaurant 33 chicken hor fun super tasty, last time they sell at Tmn Pegoh, Pengkalan. The uncle married with an indian. His (chi+ind) sons speak cantonese.
i demand u do justice to the best Beansprout Chicken stall, Cowan Street. It is so damn good, that you can hardly find places to sit most of the time.
They boss don't even have any scheduled business hours as he would open the stall whenever he feels like it (snobbish cuz his nga choi kai is the best). You definitely must blog about that stall.
I agree that good food is all about personal preference. No right and wrong.
Ipoh is definitely a place for good food. I visit Ipoh at least once a year for food and have tried all that are listed above.
Cowan Street is good but as Robb says - no fixed business hours.
Onn Kee (Air-conditioned) is the best for me; their meatballs are good too.
Lou Wong has been widely "advertised" in travel guide books and has gone on TV shows in Malaysia and Singapore. Hence, tourists flock there. Tourists don't get the luxury of tasting same food at different restaurants. This place is a no-no for me.
Oh, there's one at Buntong which tastes good too but waiting time can kill.
I'm from Singapore. This Christmas will be my third trip to Ipoh this year.
well....Cowan Street is good ,there is no doubt about that,but the one in Buntong is the same recipe and if i am not wrong,they are brothers....same Sifu...hahaha

Yah zach is right...i tried the one at restaurant central and it tasted so good ! ....the sauce is irresistable.....

I think there is another which not many ppl know coz the seller only started selling nga choi kai but its damn nice ! ..can say beat all the famous in town. Although this one not so crowded but pls don look down. Jst order nga choi kai thn you will get addicted. This one is at central kopitiam, which is opposite wah nam kopitiam in ipoh new town..only open during day time till 5pm ....they didn open at nite time
