Kuala Lumpur visits

Visiting Kuala Lumpur. There are much to say about the great food here in Kuala Lumpur.

It was already late afternoon when we arrived at Kuala Lumpur from Bukit Tinggi. I made a phone call to my best Mr. Tan (Ah Min... but we call each other by our nickname and... NO, I'm not going to tell ya what my nick name was ;p) as we will be staying at his home over the weekend. Ah Min was a friend of mine since form four. We don't speak much to each other back then but we got closer after completed secondary school. He left Ipoh in 1994 to study about automobile engineering. I still remember we took a motorbike to KL just to register his course. Myself however, took an engineering course in Ipoh.

So, he gave me the direction to go to Kepong as his workshop is located there. It took about 20 minutes drive from Wangsa Maju towards Kepong. Traffic is started to build up at the MRR2 (Neh, the cracked overhead highway lor).
So, I waited for him in front of a coffee shop near the MRR2. Once he arrived, he directed me to follow his friend's car. According to him, traffic at the main road is heavily congested at that time, so they gonna take the alternative road instead. Well, thats life in the capital city on the country, traffic jam was a part of life, one of the reason why I reluctant to live there.

So, after so many turns passsing through some industrial zone, housing area, dirt road, we finally reached a Honda service center where my friend pick up his car. Then only we head to his home at Puchong.

LDP Penang Bridge
Welcome to Penang? No this is on the LDP (Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong) near Sunway City. Underneath this bridge is the Federal Highway.

Ah Min's house was an apartment located near Bandar Kinrara, Puchong. Unlike Ipoh, most KL'ers live in highrise building such as condo, apartment or flat instead of terrace house. Real Estate is Real Expensive here. Ya know, living in a highrise building is really breath taking, as I saw his apartment right behind the fence while I was driving towards to main entrance, it took another 30 minutes before I get to reach the doorstep. Right after the main entrance, I need to make a huge turn around the block to get to the parking level(in this case, it is located in the lower ground floor). Once I reach the parking level, there are another dozens of turns in the maze to made just to reach the parking lot. Each apartment has their own dedicated parking lot, park wrongly would end up your car get clamped and fined.

Ah Min's apartment located on the 10th floor of the 12 storey building. The only thing good I felt living in a highrise building is it ain't hot like living in a terrace house like in Ipoh. My double storey terrace was explodingly hot at the afternoon and I need no water heater to take a hot shower, the water from the resevoir itself was already so hot.

night view at apartment
A very beautiful night shot from the balcony of Ah Min's apartment.

We had dinner at the Pangkor Fish Head Restaurant at Taman Megah, PJ. The restaurant located right at the opposite of the infamous Fatty Crab Restaurant. Ah Min ordered a Curry Fish Head, a Tohu, a Kam Heong Lala and a young French Bean.
I am not a fans of fish head curry but this one had really made me fall in love with it. Just gotta tell ya how delicious it was. All 4 of us (Ah Min and his wife and me with my other half) had a fully filled belly.

After having such a delicious dinner, we went for shopping at The Curve and Damansara. The Curve is located next to IKEA and TESCO. Ah Min does not like shopping but he doesn't mind to bring us to a shopping mall everytime I visit him. Sometimes I felt pity to see him sitting alone while we're shopping. I just wonder what is wrong between shopping and Ah Min, don't seems could mix up together. Maybe he think shopping was a girlie thing to do and he (as a man) don't do girlie things. Maybe lah.

We went to TESCO and bought some groceries. As we return to The Curve to get our car, the escalator exit was closed.... sigh... The Curve is closed at 10.00pm and some of the escalator exit is closed right on the time. Pity me coz I have to carry all those heavy stuff walking around to find another exit to the car park... dumbass shopping mall, I'll never come again X-(

OK, we're done with the shopping stuff and somehow manage to get back to our car at the basement, my arm was like lost its joint after carrying that large Dynamo and a few packs of soft drinks.
We head towards to city center, driving around the city and looks whats the night life like in KL. It's Saturday night and people don't sleep at Saturday night here. Not like Ipoh, you can sleep all you want on the street in the city after midnight without being hit. In KL you could hardly cross the street at midnight.

We went to Starhill (Bukit Bintang) one of the most happening spot in KL. Much has changed here from what I could recall about the place one year ago. As usual, traffic was so congested along Jalan Bukit Bintang and it is 1.00 am. I could see so much foreign people here like I was in a foreign country.

I am not very sure if my friend Ah Min likes Nasi Lemak so much or not but this is the second time he did this. He drive to Kampung Baru and tapau some Nasi Lemak

nasi lemak
We arrive home at 2.00am and eat Nasi Lemak. Hmm... does living in KL mean ones gotta eat Nasi Lemak in the middle of the night? wierd leh..

The next day in Kuala Lumpur

morning view at apartment
A clear morning view from the apartment's balcony. A rather nice view. Initially Ah Min stay at Serdang on the 8th floor of a condominium. We used to see the Turf Club from the balcony there but later on, buildings are constructed in front of the condo blocking all the nice view.
genting view
A closer look from the balcony, I could actually see Genting Highlands.

I am not the type of people who can sleep till late in the afternoon. As the sun rise above the horizon, I will get up from the bed. My friend Ah Min is different, he could sleep all day long and wake up for dinner. It's Sunday morning and he don't seems wanted to leave the bed, so his wife bring us for breakfast at a nearby coffee shop. Nearby means 30 minutes to reach there for KL standards.

KL chee cheong fun
Yong Tau Fu with Chee Cheong Fun KL style. They pour some dark brownish sauce which taste sweet onto the Yong Tau Fu
Soon after we had our breakfast, we went back to wake that bugger Ah Min up. I'll be bored to death if I do nothing there.

It's already past 11.00am and he is already awake. Ah Min's parents is coming down to visit a relative so we went out separately. We plan to go to The Mines Shopping Center for some shopping today and I asked Ah Min to show us the way there.
It seems that there has been a major change with the road around The Mines. I didn't even realise that the shopping center was just right beside until my wife tell me.
It used to be only one overhead road near the Seri Kembangan junction but now overhead is everywhere. One mistake, don't know where it will lead to.

the mines shopping center
The Mines Shopping Center located at Balakong. You could take a boat ride to the lake outside the Shopping Center.
It is a nice place to do shopping and both me and my wife did bought some nice clothing.

Its already lunch time and it's time to fill up our tummy. I decided to try out The Chicken Shop's chicken rice. My wife told me that it was quite okay so why not I try it.

Chicken rice shop all
This is what we got for the Value Meal Set B it cost RM25.90

crispy popiah
This crispy Popiah is so tasty. But make sure it's the first one to eat otherwise it will start become soft.

yummy chicken
Roasted Chicken. Just so so only lah....

beansprout
Beansprout. For a person from Ipoh who is so used with the infamous Ipoh Nga Choi Kai, this isn't something that could be compared. But this plate of beansprout was like has been idle on the table since last night.

fish ball soup
They call this Sai To Fishball. Sai To in cantonese means the Grey Featherback fish or Knifefish (Belida in Malay) found in most main river in the country.
knife fish
This is how a Sai To fish looks like.
Sai To fish is very famous with it's meat use to made into fish ball (Sai To Fish Ball)
In the case of the chicken rice shop, I doubt if its a real Sai To fishball. Sai To fish are rare now days.

bbq char siew chicken
BBQ Chicken meat. An adaptation from Char Siew. This one was kinda soft for my liking.

I felt it was a bit excessive for the whole set of meal or probably I wasn't really hungry.

My wife's comment : The first time I had it at Midvalley's shop. It was very nice then but now I felt dissapointed with this one.

As we finished the first round of shopping at The Mines Shopping Center, we head towards MidValley MegaMall for the second round of shopping. MidValley is located in Bangsar just beside the Federal Highway. I'm not sure if it was the largest shopping mall in the country now but it really is BIG. With over 400 shops, Carrefour, Jusco, Metrojaya, an 18 screen cineplex, bowling blah blah blah... just too many to mention... its just so BIG OK.

It was already evening and we haven't seems to bought anything at the MidValley. Ah Min called me up asking if we have done with our shoppings and go for the dinner. Since both me and my wife was sort of exhausted, we just move on and head for Ah Min's house.

We have dinner at New Paris Restaurant located in SS2 PJ. The food was great and the place was so pack with people.
It was another day full of activity and there is one more day to enjoy before we return back to Ipoh.
