Why am I saying 'Luckily' I can renew Road Tax online?
I know Luck has nothing to do to renew a road tax but if it wasn't this, I would have to go through another painful ordeal to get my road tax renew this year. The problem that I have is that my vehicle certificate or so called 'Geran' has been misplaced into somewhere I couldn't find over the past several days. I couldn't recall where the hell I have placed it but I just couldn't find it.
I still remember when I lost my motorbike's Geran few years ago and I have had gone through all the things like making report at police station, report to JPJ, inspect my bike at Puspakom and so on just to get a new cert for the bike. And just a couple of months after that, I found the original cert placed mysteriously within some of my old utility bills trays. WTF!
I'm not sure if my car cert is really gone missing or just misplaced it somewhere in my home but without it, I can't renew my road tax. I even called up JPJ and asked them if I could renew my road tax without bringing my vehicle cert, the answer is simply NO! My road tax is near expire and if I can't find it, I will have to go through the nightmare again to get a new one just for the sake of renewing my road tax! With the time running out, I remember that there is an online service which could renew road tax called MyEG!
How to renew road tax online at MyEG!
Here is some information of how you can renew your car road tax online at MyEG.
Well, I get to know about this service several months ago in newspaper but never really pay attention about it though. Since I have no other option to chose from, I browse around the MyEG website to learn more about this online road tax renewal procedure. It was like seeing a shade of light within a dark cave, getting to know that I can renew my road tax without even need to produce my vehicle cert at all!
To renew the road tax is real simple, just fill in an online form and then proceed to payment and just within 5 days, you will have the new road tax delivered right to your door step. Cool huh! Sounds really easy at first by I did experience some difficulty in my attempt to use this service for the first time.
The first time I submit the renewal form, it state that they will call me back within 5 days time as they need to do some verification. Not knowing that something amiss, I waited stupidly.... and they never seems to call me back!
I end up to submit it again and took the initiative to call them up asking about what happened with my submission. The help desk personnel told me that my IC number is not correct with the IC number stated in the JPJ record. I submitted using my new IC number which my car was registered using old IC number. It was just some minor problem and it could have been trigered during the form submission and this tiny little issue had wasted me few days time!
Talk about an MSC status service, official government service sumore. Haiii...
So, I fill in the same ol'e form again with my old IC number and immediately, I was brought to a payment page to fill in my payment information. Apart of the road tax, they charge another RM2.15 for something so called 'convenience charge', so convenience for them to charge us heh, and another RM8.00 for delivery charge. You could refer to their fees and charges.
At the end of the process, I will get an e-receipt on the screen which I just need to save it into my PC for future reference if needed.
I received my new road tax 3 work days after I submit it online. Well, it seems to be very efficient afterall, apart from the little problem I had initially.
So, if you want to use the online road tax renewal at MyEG, remember this.
Once you submit the first form containing your name, address etc, you should be directed to the payment page.
If it show some message saying they need to verify your information and will call you back later, just call up their help desk immediately and ask them whats wrong. Never wait for them to call you back! It may never happen.
Now, I have all the time I need to go find where the hell my vehicle cert is. dang!
