My Son Got Atopic Dermatitis

Well, I just learned a new word today, Atopic Dermatitis, noah it has nothing to do with those Atomic thing which most people has heard of but this this Atopic Dermatitis is a kind of skin disease name. And I get to learn about this name, the hard way.

My 9 months old boy has this kind of skin disease. It started when he was about 6 months old where occasionally his skin show some red little dot but usually it would fade away the next day or so. As the time goes, it turn out to become bad and then worst. As the tiny little red dots spread itself into larger patches, it makes his felt very uncomfortable, his body was itchy thus he start to scratch all over himself and sometimes leaving a few bleeding scratch on his body. It was a very heartache situation for me and wifey looking at the helpless little baby.

Early last month, he was admitted into hospital when the situation has become emotionally unbearable to us. Although he has been on medication, but it just could not get rid of the problem completely. At once, he is a fine little baby boy but then things could turn completely worst.

It has come to the point that I have had no more idea what I could do about this. Looking at the poor little baby going through this endless suffocation but nothing much that I could do. It was really really sad especially to my wifey.

I bring my little baby to a Dermatologist recently at Greentown. This is the second Dermatologist I've visited and he has another story about my son's disease and it is how I get to learn about this Atopic Dermatitis thing.

According to Dr. Ratti, this skin disease is somewhat harmless and it is not going to cause serious sickness or even death. However, due to the itchiness occur to his body making him to scratch all over, it would cause some injury on his body and that may cause infection to other sickness.

Well, that wasn't very bad but then the worst news has yet to be told. According to Dr. Ratti again, though this type of disease it not rare but then, there is no effective medicine which could really cure it completely! WTF!
It broke my heart listening that last line from the Dermatologist.

'You mean, my son could never be cure after all?', I asked.

'Usually, this problem will fade away as the person grows. But it is very subjective to say how long it would take. But usually a few years time or maybe even longer', he replied.

I really can't describe my feeling knowing my little child having some sort of disease that has no cure. I hope the doctor was wrong, damn wrong. But if that is the real freaking truth, just what else I could do?

The session continues with Dr. Ratti explaining more about the Atopic Dermatitis thingy and what I could and should do. Since there is no concrete answer of when my little boy would completely get well, it is important to understand hows the disease goes by and how it affect my baby.
