Oh Heavenly God

Pai Ti Gong is the celebration to pay tribute to the Heavenly God on the midnight of the 8th day of Lunar New Year.

Initially, I heard it was the Hokkien community that will perform this worship but son after, even the Teochew and Hakka doing it. So, I doesn't know who's the egg and who's the chicken now, not even my parents could tell exactly about this. Just consider the whole Chinese community are now celebrating it lo.

Pai Ti Gong is a ritual to worship the Heavenly God and it is celebrated on the midnight of the 8th day of Chinese Lunar New Year.
My family does celebrate it each year, everyone in the family will get involve to get things done. In fact, this year I even start cooking some dishes too.

getting the altar ready for pai ti gong
A pair of sugarcane is compulsory. It will be hanged on the gate or on the altar.

bbq cockles
Cockles??? Well, my elder brother set up a fire and BBQ-ing cockles, La-La and Spiked Snail. Guess we liked to try new things on such occasion. I dislikes cockles, eventhough I have tried so many times in different way of preparation, sill I dislikes it, so I just leave to the others to finish it up.

getting the folded paper to burn
Getting these folded papers for burning. Papers is folded into shape of crown. Hmm, maybe I would want to learn Origami and start folding Mac, Harley, Boeing, Ferrari huh.

Everything is set before midnight.

burning papers
As midnight approached, things start to get burning. Its fire everywhere.

fireworks
And so as the fireworks. In fact, I heard more fireworks during Pai Ti Gong than the Chinese New Year eve.

more fireworks
Fireworks are banned decades ago, Festive season become darn quiet without those noisy firecrackers. I guess I'm sort of lucky cos I get to play firecrackers during my childhood, Moon Travelers, Songster, Tank, Thunder Clap, Cock, Frog etc. So many types of firecrackers back then.
But for the new generations, fireworks has become just another history.

ready to eat
As the burning end, the tribute to the Heavenly God soon completed and its our turn to celebrate it, EAT IT !
