I was astonished with the magnificence evening scenery of Shanghai city through the Huangpu river cruise for the first time five years ago. Today, I get to witness it again and after several years of development, I hope things would be getting more interesting.
Unfortunately, I was told that China government had slashed down the expenses to light up the building across the city ever since the Sichuan earthquake in order to channel more money for the needy people.
It cost Shanghai $1 million Renminbi each night to lit up all the buildings along the Huangpu River. Now, it will only light up all its neon once a week during weekend eve. On the rest of the night, it will only partially light up.
It was a disappointment for us since it was not weekend eve as we were there but then we still hope to see some beautiful night view in one of the largest city in the world.
Shanghai is divided into the east and west zone separated by the Huangpu River. The west zone known as Puxi is the origin city of the old Shanghai. The east zone known as Pudong is the new city of Shanghai.
There were more than 5000 skyscrapers above 20 storeys high in Shanghai with most of them resided in Pudong.
The famous landmark in Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl Tower.
Shanghai alone is populated by more than 20 million people, more than two third the total population of Malaysia. Most of the population here are immigrants from other provinces seeking a career here, there are known as the New Shanghainese.
Shanghai is the financial hub of China. This is the city where all economic activities run connecting all businesses around the world.
Pudong resides most of the modern skyscraper in Shanghai. You could see tall building all over the city.
The Shanghai Bund resides on the eastern zone of Shanghai known as Puxi.
Known as the old Shanghai, Puxi reserve most of the old infrastructures. There is significantly less skyscraper in the Puxi area.
Our Huangpu Rover cruise eventually comes to the end. For me, the cruise is still worth while. You won’t be able to see the beauty of Shanghai at night without the cruise. Although I was told that there has been some reduction on the city lightings, the beauty of Shanghai did not fade away.
The next event on the evening is an acrobatic show known as ERA, Intersection of Time which is held at the Shanghai Circus World. I wouldn’t say it was the best show ever but well, it certainly not a boring one (recalling the musical show at Korea).
Later in the night, we went to the Nanjing Road for supper. It was already quite late in the night and the shop were about to close.
Nanjing Road is a pedestrian only street and it is a famous tourist spot in Shanghai.
We had our supper at a fast food restaurant there. Out local tour guide recommended us for its steamed dumplings.
Well, their dumpling here has a rather thick skin unlike what we have at our homeland. Somehow, I feel those I had in Malaysia taste better than this one. We end up getting another burger from KFC instead.
As we are done with the supper, it was already dark at Nanjing Road. Having nothing else to do, we head back to the hotel instead.
Bad day for me that my shoes finally gave up. I think this pair of shoe has accompanied me for nearly a decade if not more. Had walked me past several countries and now officially retire. Its time to get a new pair tomorrow.
