Trip to Yunnan China pt 2

This is where the beautiful scenic of Kunming begins. We visited the Xi Shan knowns as the West Hill in Kunming and the JingMa Biji Archway.

xi shan entrance
Our first destination in Kunming is the Xi Shan (West Hill). It is located not far away from Kunming City.

touch the gods dragon ball
According to the tour guide, If you manage to touch the Dragon Ball of the god, you will get great fortune.
Well, the god sure keep the Dragon Ball so secure on his hand and those people could only touch the other Ball of you-know-where. Just look at the god's eye. He was so angry already like wanna eat people. I better stay away before the god hit someone with it's ugly stick.

You could enjoy the wonderful scenic around the hill while climbing up to the never-ending-stairs.

dianchi lake from xi shan
You can see the entire DianChi Lake from the Xi Shan Hill. This is only one part of the lake. Dianchi Lake covers about 300 kilometers square and it was the largest lake in Yunnan province and the sixth largest lake in China. Unfortunately, due to rapid growth in development, this lake has been badly polluted.

buying souvenirs
Souvenirs stalls !
It was impossible for someone to NOT buy anything here in China. Things seems to be dirt cheap. I'm sure everyone would buy some souvenirs such as key chain and so on for their friends and family as gift.
You won't have to worry about it. You would sure come across these stalls selling similar things everyday and night.
Those shopaholics would certainly feel like heaven here.
*Note: Ipohchai advice you to be cautious about buying things here as there are dishonest seller everywhere. Check your goods and the quantity before leaving the stall.

Well, not to say that most seller here are dishonest or cheater. I have heard, see and even experienced these dishonest seller in China numerous times. Though it may be only cost you some small amount in money but you will still feel that you have been cheated.

aunty rushing to the toilet
Uh, cannot tahan anymore!
The toilet is the very first place to visit every time the bus stop. The air is very dry here in Yunnan so you got to consume more water to avoid dehydration. It end up with more frequent visit to the toilet.

So, the visit to the West Hill is done and we head back to Kunming city to have a glance at the Jinma Biji Archway.
jinma biji archway
This is the Jinma-Biji (Golden Horse-Green Rooster) Archway. It was 2 huge traditional piece of architecture. It looks very gorgeous.
The place was pretty crowded here and you may find hawkers selling fruits and street performances too. It a very lively place here.

Well, it was already late afternoon and we head to a nearby restaurant and had our very first meal (dinner) in China. Most people may worry if they could get on with the food here. Unless you are terribly choosy about food, I'm sure it would not have any problem. Most tour guide here have had experience with Malaysian taste and they would order accordingly except for a few local cuisine that they may want you to try.

Allright, let see what we had on our very first dinner in Kunming city.
fresh salad for dinner Cold steamed chicken steamed potato with shredded vegetables fried black fungus with bun fried vegetable pan cake with glutinous rice sauce pork belly with mui choy vegetable soup with egg steamed tilapia with spicy sauce

  • Fresh Salad. Good appetizer.
  • Cold Steamed Chicken. I guess most Malaysian aren't used with cold food but here in China, cold food are common, just like this steamed (cold) chicken.
  • Steamed Potato. he potato is meshed with some vegetables and steamed in an aluminum foil.
  • Fried black fungus with assorted bun.
  • Fried Pork with assorted vegetables. This taste pretty nice.
  • Sani biscuit. Looks like a plain pan cake. It taste plain and the sauce taste like glutinous rice with sugar.
  • Pork belly with Mui Choy. I'm sure most Malaysian Chinese know this dish. It also come with a plate of Mun Tow bun.
  • Vegetable soup with egg. The soup taste fine.
  • Steamed Tilapia fish with spicy sauce. You gotta appreciate this Tilapia fish though.
  • dinner finished
Whether the food here taste good or bad, you try and make a guess ok?
As the dinner was over, we head to the hotel to check in. It was a very tiring day and I haven't get any sleep over the past 40 hours or so.

    kunming palace hotel
We stayed at the Palace Hotel in Kunming. It is located just in the city, very convenience for us to go shopping on our own.

    outside palace hotel kunming
It is compulsory to take extra care of your own belongings here if you are walking in the crowd. Pick pocket are everywhere looking for opportunities. One of our partaker have had his wallet picked just on the very first evening here. Luckily he only loss some money. If lost passport, then it going to be a bad trip for you.

I was there last year. I did not get to enjoy West Hill much as it was drizzling at that time. The food in Kunming need some getting used to, so I ended up packing so Mcdonalds.
