Trip to Yunnan China pt 7-Going to LiJiang

5th day of the trip bring us to Li Jiang. It is a very beautiful place and ultimately the Yulong Snow mountain catches my attention.

The whole trip to Yunnan has completed by half now. Its already the 5th day of the trip and I was in Dali. Today we will be heading towards LiJiang which is somewhere 200 Kilometers away from Dali.

dali snow mountains
Early in the morning as I walked out to the street, I saw this amazing scenic. Yeah, snow mountain. Don't you love living in a place like this one.

bai ethnics dance
Some dance performance by the lovely girls. This one surely better than the 180 bucks show I spent the other day in Kunming. Yeah, and I get to taste the Three-Course-Tea too.

bai ethnics men dancers
Yeah, not forget about the men too. It seems that rockers has emerged in China since thousands of years ago. I guess this is how they ROCK in the ancient time!

odd vehicle
An odd looking vehicle. This vehicle are common. It was used in all sort of way ones could imagine.

jade shop to lijiang
Right after lunch, we start our journey to LiJiang. It takes another 4 hours drive along the 200 km mountains route climbing another 300 meters. LiJiang is located about 2500 meters above sea.
You know, a good toilet are hard to find along this route. It would takes more than 2 hours until you reach the next petrol station with a heavenly-constructed-toilet. There is once we stopped on a road side public toilet and I got this feedback.
Aunty:'NiaMah! The toilet have no door, no flush and the smell could kill me even before I enter the toilet ar! Sumomre they want me 50 cent!'
Well, thats true. In the isolated area here, the toilet just don't have doors. Probably they like to chat with each other when they do-it that time, can compare who make a bigger shit kua.
Basically, the bus driver will stop at certain area along the journey which have a better toilet (got door and flush one la). But you just got to ask him when was the next stop, else you will end up in the hell-kind-of-toilet here.

In the middle of the journey we stopped by at a shop selling Jade and Silver accessory. Chinese are famous with its jade but the best quality of jade does not comes from China. These high quality jade actually comes from Burma (Myanmar) which is located just next to Yunnan province. Quality of jade is determined by its hardness. The harder the jade, the better the quality.

Good statement for makcik, Ultra Sang. :)

Very humor of this visit day! The mahjong man! Hahahh...

They also taught us how to determine the jade quality by knocking the jade with another piece of jade. A good jade will create a very sharp and crisp ping sound while lower quality jade creates a dull solid sound.
of course there may be other way to determine a good jade which we don't know.

Visiting jade gallery is the "de-facto" place to go whenever you visit China. It's everywhere in China and you cannot run away from visiting it because it's part of the tour itinerary.

Btw, IMO, I notice most of the photos don't look "smooth". May I know how you actually resize them?
#4 ipohchai (2007-04-13)
I resize them only with the MS Office photo editor. Thats the only program available. PhotoShop could do better result but I don't have the time though.

you can try picasa, a free software from google. you can batch resize at one go, so it saves your time. don't worry, your photos are nice! keep it up!
